San Diego Wednesday Mountain Bike

Print

What: Mountain Bike Ride

Who: Advanced Riders only -  This ride is not for intermediate or beginner riders

Why: Because mountain biking is both fun an social.

When: Every Wednesday. Meet at 5:45pm

Where: The east end of the Penasquitos Preserve off Black Mountain Road on the west side of Canyonside Park. (Map)

Additional Information

Every 5th or 6th ride we start a short distance away so we can ride on Black Mountain.

Should you wish to join us sometime, though it may best best to try the ride first, it is a good idea to get on the e-mail list (which can be done by e-mailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). An e-mail goes out every Monday about the following Wednesday's ride.

The ride is a mix of pure MTB'rs, Off Road (Xterra) triathletes and Adventure Racers. We have regulars and those that show up infrequently and everything in between.

We typically have an average of around 8-10 riders. We do not ride the same exact trails every time. We do variations and sometimes switch things on the fly. Generally the ride is a serious of intervals with a few stops so everyone can gather back up, but if you drop to far behind, you can get "dropped".

Do note this is not a beginners ride and probably not an intermediate ride. I would call it a high intermediate to advanced pace and technical ride. We ride about 90-110 minutes and you'll think that is plenty. Sometimes we end with a flat, fast, anaerobic 2.5 mile sprint back to the start. Sometimes I join in that madness, sometimes I don't.

Most importantly , we almost always rehydrate responsibly post-ride in the parking lot with a favorite adult beverage or two, or in lieu of that whatever you like.

Come join one of the longest consecutively running weekly mountain bike rides in San Diego!

Thanks and have a great day.

Where: meet on the corner of San Vicente/26th in Brentwood (tons of free parking here) - This is our standard meeting place but we may change it from time to time so please check with me the week of the ride.
What to Bring: a helmet is a MUST so is a rear red light. In addition to these 2 items, make sure you bring a spare tube and a means to inflate (co2 cartridge or pump), tire levers, and a multitool. Also warm clothing is advised as it can get cold on the descents.

Team nuun - SportMulti (www.dartadventureracing.com) is holding regular winter Thursday night mountain bike training rides in the Santa Monica Mountains starting at 7:30pm (we also have Wednesday night rides in Seattle. For these, please contact Ryan VanGorder for details at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). These rides are open to ALL skill and fitness levels. We all need a little motivation getting out there during the colder winter months so what better than having others to ride with. These will be no drop rides which means that we’ll regroup along the route to make sure everyone finishes together. Depending on how many we are, we will split the group into speed levels. If you want to go fast, you can join the fast group but if you want to go slower you can just hang out and enjoy the night. We will have a “sweeper” at the back of the group at all times. A sweeper is an experienced rider who knows the route and will help anyone who needs help. Just feel confident that you can ride at your own pace. During the rides, we’ll gladly help anyone with training and technical tips.
